Clearly, we’re witnessing a historic turn for the worse.

Imagine. From the time the Renaissance, a lot of this innocently optimistic people has assumed that it is, though haltingly, on the path to ever-better days.

Oh, there is always the haunting thought that what collapses once could, in fact, fall again. But we felt that modernity had built a pretty business floor under what we believe civilization.

Surprisingly, but we’ve sagged uncomfortably close to a brand new but strangely distinct Dark Age. While it’s technically competent and scientifically revelatory, it’s too barbarous and imbecilic as ever.

In actuality, science and technology, which are redemptive when found at the service of life, are, when you well know, widely employed all the better to dismiss up your neighbor.

Certainly, all these are times that persuade an optimist to have the long term.

Let’s go through the typical conduct of the world as we primarily experience it: through the media.

It’s superbly reactive. Let a male factor or even a moron misbehave anywhere, and the incident is instantly presented to the reliable outrage.

But, well-intentioned just as a lot of it is, that the press is just proactive at the level of uninformed bluster. It’s hardly the enlightened bastion civilization needs against the encroachment of ignorance resurgent.

The most highly regarded exponents of reasoned debate who populate the press don’t reveal a working knowledge of these thoughts necessary for the educated guidance of society. It’s as though we’re all supposed to pretend we are discriminated sufferers that don’t know much better.

By default, the majority of the thoughts that civilization is supported by are nowhere contained in our regular worldwide dialog.

What’s even more upsetting is that people don’t see a possible remedy.

As the press spreads the conflagration of civilization like yelping idiots bearing torches, the world leaders we have in place seem incapable of showing up having a credible firehose. At best, they function at the degree of all point-counterpoint disputation with the barbarians of the era.

Most unfortunately, our cognoscenti apparently can not ring the bell to their fire truck and drive to the rescue. What have we but boffins with a kid’s comprehension of doctrine and art, and philosophers and musicians with an antediluvian knowledge of mathematics and its benefits?

Hence the conflagration of culture continues apace.

In the event the reversion to barbarism proceeds, we could have to decide that the individual race is actually a volcano species that is too violent and dumb to survive.

Or we may just take the long term view. As a species, we’re only about 100,000 years old also, despite the trappings of modernity, camped just outside the cave. Maybe in a thousand or so years we’ll leave our devised gaps and assorted idiocies behind and actually develop into the individual race.

In the meantime, we can only expect that enough men and women miss out the notions from the junk yard to reclaim them and make them part of their everyday guidance of what is, with them, a worldwide village at the thrall of violence, superstition, and nuclear dynamite.
